Arc'teryx Solano Hoody - Men's

Written on Apr 23, 2020

I own the Solano jacket for a few weeks now, and have started wearing it almost on a daily basis. It has some heat retention, but won't stand on its own in cold weather. It shines in its weather resistance though, being very windproof and much more resistant to water than I had expected.

The downside is the fit. I ordered a medium, but the sleeves fit as though they are built for Jean-Claude Van Damme, and are much too wide for the average individual with a sporty build like myself. The body could also be a bit more fitted.

If I could give one tip to Arc'teryx it would be to create a new version of the Solano jacket with a fit closer to that of the Nodin jacket.

Arc'teryx Seton Jacket - Men's

Very similar to the Atom LT, of which I have two, but more stylish. It is very roomy over the belly and torso. Almost too roomy. I would consider sizing down one notch if you plan on not layering under. When you sit down with the zipper up it sort of “balloons” up over the stomach and torso. The exterior fabric is more noisy than on the Atom (although my Atoms are a couple of years old so the outer fabric may have changed on the latest Atom as well, I wouldn’t know). Furthermore, I don’t like the arm cuffs on the Seton as they are too tight and it feels like they have more filling than the rest of the jacket. Would have preferred “normal” bomber cuffs in the arms instead as it is impossible to roll up the sleeves.

Arc'teryx Atom LT Jacket - Men's

Full disclosure: I'm an Arcteryx fanboy. I knew that I was going to like the Atom, but it has still managed to surpass my expectations. It weighs close to nothing and keeps me warmer than some of the much bulkier, entry-level insulated jackets that I've had in the past. The fit is absolutely spot on, and it has the best zipper I've ever used. Do yourself a favor and snag one!

Arc'teryx Argus Jacket - Men's

Very light and warm. Don't even think about wearing this if it's even slightly warm. Perfect for trail running not tight or binds anywhere and I run in the rain and it keeps me warm in Ohio. Love the back stash pockets for my hat when I start to overheat. I think I will be able to run in the coldest of Ohio winters with this jacket but so far I have only ran down to 8f and so far so good. It's also very sharp looking I get stares for whatever reason wearing it. I would recommend it to anyone who likes winter trail running.

Arc'teryx Bernal Long Sleeve Shirt - Men's

Arcteryx makes the best flannel shirts, I know it might be hard to hear but it's true, accept it. I have worn Patagonia, MHW, Fjallraven, Prana and a few others and I may never buy their flannels again because of this shirt. It's the first company to make a size Small that fits me. It's a size small not for someone who is 5'4 (nothing wrong with that of course) but instead fits someone who is 6 ft but in mediums usually feels like he's swimming in a shirt. The arms tapper in a very classy and well done way. Also this is a Fall-Winter-Spring Flannel as it has some thickness to it but in the winter I would recommend adding some other layers for sure.

Typical top notch quality you'd expect from Arc'teryx but in a casual winter jacket. Easily fends off cold, rain, and snow but in a less technical package. The hand warmer pockets are amazingly soft that it feels like they lined them with the pelts of baby unicorns. The only thing that had me scratching my head was the hood...I thought the hood design would have gotten the trickle down effect from their technical jackets but it looks a bit awkward and bunches up on the sides.

I purchase a pullover made of the same material, well, about 12 years ago! Typical Arcteryx durability and comfort. I wear it over a base layer, under a mid-layer with a Beta AR shell on top for inbound skiing and same for back country touring when layering is essential. This material is magic...hold heat when you need it, breathes when you heat up. I am tempted to order each color.

No, I am not employed by Arcteryx but I am sipping on the kool-aid...

Arc'teryx Aptin Zip Hoody

And not just any kitten pajamas, but pajamas with gerbils driving race cars on them, in space!!! I bought two of these and they are amazing. I really love how versatile they are and the fit and feel is excellent. I use them mainly for hiking in the PNW and it's my go to piece this time of year. I'm 6' 192lbs and the large fits well, if not a bit too long. The only option I'd like to see is this exact piece without a hood so that I could use it for running, cycling, and such. Generally the hood bounces around in the wind if I run in it, but I love the hood for hiking as that isn't an issue. Just make one without a hood also and I'll buy a couple more!

Arc'teryx Rho LT Hooded Zip Neck - Men's

Perfect layer for chilly alpine mornings - and not too thick where you can't wait to take it off once the sun comes out! I actually was feeling lazy and didn't want to take it off when I started sweating - and it wasn't overbearing.

I wore it for a run, and it was the perfect length - didn't ride up around the waist, and the arms were just long enough to cover my chunky Suunto watch and still keep my wrists warm.

I packed this and a puffy jacket for my trek on the JMT and it was the perfect mid-layer! I love the zip pocket on the arm - it fits chapstick, ID card and/or a snack gels/bar!

I'm really excited to get out on some trad climbs with this. I think it's the perfect layer for when you're climbing in the shade. It's thick enough where I wouldn't be worried that I'd tear it, and the quality is great so I'm not worried about pilling. It looks like the hood will fit over a helmet too, but I have not tried it yet so can't confirm.

I have the Illusion color, but now I want another one in Flux! Please make it in more bright colors!

Thumb holes would make this top perfect

Pelion Polo Shirt Men's

I liked the fit and feel of this polo. Then one day I wore it on a kayaking trip. Thought it would be a lazy river trip. Turned out anything but.... and this polo performed. Dried quickly. Kept me perfectly regulated temperature wise. Looks great. My only downside I would call out is that it seems to stain easily. That shouldn’t stop you from purchasing. You will love this polo every day.
