Great all around softshell

Written on Mar 07, 2016

I wanted a mid-weight jacket that could handle the day-to-day rainy, drizzly, blustery weather in the Pacific NW, and a back-up for mountain adventures. The Android II really delivers. It has a clean design and quality construction. In the Large size, the sleeves are long enough for my 36" arms, but still has a trim fit. Quality zipper, internal baffles in the cuffs, and two huge internal map pockets, at an affordable price makes this jacket a winner.

Some good, some bad

On the plus side, this headlamp delivers decently bright, consistent manually adjustable lighting. It is comfortable on your head, and the removable top strap lets you quickly transfer it to a helmet mount. Because the battery pack sits in the back, the part up front doesn't bounce around even when you're running. Non rechargeable Lithium 123 batteries are pricey, so you may be reluctant to turn it on unless it is, well, really dark. The technology used here is old. You have much better choices in this price range. The more serious drawback is that the hinge point between the lighting unit and the part that rests against the forehead is plastic and quite small. The first one I bought developed a stress crack almost right away. The second one did the same. Well I kept it and so far, so good; its been holding together, but I'm still uneasy about it (I keep a small back-up light in my 1st Aid kit).
