Comfortable.

Written on Oct 30, 2017

This is great for sleeping in warmer weather when I'm not zipped up tightly in a mummy bag. I use it with a regular sized Thermarest Neoair All Season and it fits great. I use the same mattress for car camping and backpacking. I'm not sure if I'll ever carry the sheet backpacking but it is light enough that I could take it without much weight penalty.

Great deal.

I was looking for a "beater" multitool that I could carry at work that would be both inexpensive and decent quality. After a coworker damaged a Leatherman I had been carrying, I was reluctant to replace it with something equally expensive. This tool is almost ideal for my particular needs, a great bargain, decently well made for the price, the blade is very sharp and the bit driver was a big selling point for me. Alas, I had to stop carrying it at work due to the weight. At 12 oz, it is on the heavy side of the spectrum as multitools go and was too much weight in conjunction with the flashlight and antique flip phone I carry on my work belt.

I really wanted to like this cap

Written on Oct 08, 2017

First off, there are some things I really like about this cap, such as the style and the long bill with dark material underneath. The description of the material here is that the the material is lightweight nylon. Based on this, I was expecting the cap to be made of the same or similar lightweight and breathable nylon as on the several hats I've owned from three major manufacturers. The material used on the hat that I received is a heavy polyester material that is very similar to material used in mid weight soft shell jackets. The hat is uncomfortable to wear in warm situations, even while sedentary. The breathability of the material used in this hat is very limited. I expect to only be using this hat in very cool conditions and not while undergoing physical exertion.

Quite decent for the money.

This is a bargain for a good quality US made knife. I am really impressed with how tight the knife is. No play at all. I have three Swiss Army lock-back knives and they all have some play. The one handed opening action is just fair for me, just as it is with the Swiss Army knives. The steel is only 420HC, nothing to get excited about, but about what one should expect for the price. The knife was pretty dull out of the package. Though my honing skills are just ok, I was able get a better edge on it quickly enough. The "shark belly" grooves along with the handle shape and ridges in the spring where the thumb naturally rests make this a very "grippy" knife for its compact size. I bought this knife for work but I may start carrying it while hiking and backpacking as well. It weighs only 2.25 oz on my scale.

Tastey

Tastier than expected. Little bit spicy, but just right. Adding a small can of canned chicken rounded the meal out nicely.

Better than instant oatmeal

Written on Sep 10, 2011

I was looking for a change from the instant oatmeal and freeze dried eggs that I usually bring on backpacking trips. There aren't many choices out there for backpacking breakfast. meals. Enertia seems to have come up with some interesting alternatives. This meal is great tasting, too.

Much better than canned chili

I was surprised by how good this chili tastes. Not at all like canned chili. I can make a much better chili at home, but that takes hours. This chili is very nice and satisfying on the trail.
