After an exhaustive search of poles that would meet my needs for all seasons (hiking, snowshoeing, skiing), the Aergon 3 Vertical hit the nail on the head, and as the description says, these poles are tricked out with all of the technology and experience Leki has. Starting from the top, the Trigger S Vertical system is both secure and convenient. Considering the number of times I needed to disconnect from the poles (using my hands during hikes, chairlifts, etc.) as well as not having straps getting dirty on the ground, either when setting them down or using them as tarp poles, the Trigger S V system is fantastic. Moving to the handle, I have long been a fan of the ovoid head and overall shape of Leki's ergonomic handles, and while cork is nice, I have found the thermo-foam to be very durable and great for all seasons. The thermal extensions, both for better grip and protection from cold aluminum handles when gripping down on the poles, was another feature I was looking for. Check. Speaking of aluminum, an all-aluminum construction was also important to me for its durability. Next, I wanted the latest and greatest in adjustment locks. So many of the poles that feature a company's best locks (Leki and other brands) also incorporate carbon tubes. To find the Speed Lock 2 on an all-aluminum construction was rare.
