I’ve been backing since I was a kid in scouts and have always slept on the ground. Despite the advances in blow up pads, I never get a good nights sleep. The ground has no “give” and it’s never going to be like a mattress. That all changes with this cot. Yes at 2.8# it’s a luxury item and it is long in the stuff sack. It’s worth it in my opinion. I pair it with a sea to summit 1.5” lightweight blowup pad and it’s the ultimate sleep system. I use two pieces of paracord to loop around the cot and the pad to keep everything in place. I’m 6’1” and am completely comfortable on this cot. Some complain about the set up and if that’s you, you aren’t doing it right. The method that is easiest is to set it on edge and use your entire upper body to press and flex the bow into place. It’s very easily done. This really excels at the comfortable nights sleep it provides. It’s a game changer and I will never hike without it. I haven’t yet evaluated how this does in cold weather. Since you aren’t laying on the ground and there is air between you and ground contact it stands to reason that you would be warmer than laying on the ground even with an insulated pad. The pad I use has an R value of 5, but I haven’t pushed its limits in cold weather as I typically am a 3+ season hiker (I find no joy in backpacking in the freezing cold)
