Review for
Montane Resolute Down Jacket - Men's
Bought for winter camping, mountaineering, backcountry skiing. I plan to leave this at camp and only pack it with me when I expect to be stationary in very cold conditions: belaying, bouldering mid winter. Construction seems to be very good quality (seams etc.) and the baffles are plump with down (certainly not underfilled). I chose this jacket in part because I expected the fabrics used to be a little burlier than some of the 20D fabrics used on similar jackets: this certainly appears to be the case now that I have it in hand, it'll be interesting to see how it holds up over the coming years. It's supplied with a roll-top stuff sack and packs down pretty small considering the warms of the jacket. The hood design is excellent, fitting over my climbing helmet, which I also use for backcountry skiing (haven't tried a proper ski helmet), but also cinches down pretty well without a helmet. I've only had the jacket couple of weeks and haven't used it real biting cold, just at base camp at around 15F, where it was plenty warm enough. Still, based on my initial impressions I expect it to perform as I'd hoped.
