If jacket cost under $150 then it would get 5 stars! But it retails for over $400 and just falls well short of warranting such a price. It’s also inferior to many other jackets in its price range. For the majority of this review I’ll be comparing to my Arc’teryx Thorium mainly because it’s around the same price and made by a reputable company that also produces premium products. So the following will be in relation to it and in comparison to it. The down isn’t lofty at all, the jacket just isn’t puffy. The exterior just feels and, I hate to say, also looks cheap. The color doesn’t look anything like the pictures (I wish I could upload pics but I can’t here). Instead of a dark navy it’s a lighter brighter blue which I personally don’t like. I’ve had many many down jackets, this my first Norrona, and I couldn’t be more disappointed. It just doesn’t look and feel like a premium quality jacket worthy of a price point anywhere near its retail price. There’s just too many, like dozens, of other products that costs the same or less that crush this jacket in every regard. Serious fail on Norrona’s part.
I’ve had a long and turbulent relationship with LaSportiva. I’ve had shoes/boots that I’ve liked and that have been durable and long lasting (trait that is extremely important to me). Due to this inconsistency I’ve recently stayed away choosing to stick with Asolo, Danner, Salewa, and a few other that do consistently give me the quality, comfort, and durability I want and expect for footwear over $180 a pair. I can say with this offering from LaSportiva that I’m all round pleased and happy with the purchase. They’re top quality, comfy, and I have no concerns regarding durability as they seem bombproof. And definitely helps that I got an amazing deal on these that I don’t think I’ll ever see again!!
I’m a sucker for Ortovox products. Yes they are overpriced but I love their style, their feel, and their quality so I’m willing to pay more for their products. I was excited when this jacket arrived as I was going back and fourth about getting it for awhile so when it went on sale at over 50% off I had to grab it. Everything is what you expect from from an Ortovox product or any other premium brand. The quality is top notch and it feels and looks like a quality piece. One caveat I have to add is I got this after winter (wrote this on 4/10/21) so it won’t be tested out in the cold and snow until this coming winter but I have no concerns about it’s durability or performance in almost every aspect. I am interested to see how warm it is though. For an insulated jacket it’s relatively thinner than other jackets I’ve had so I guess it’ll come down to how well that Swisswool Black performs. Now one big point I have to make is if your use to buying Ortovox products and go a size up because they run small do not (as in DONT DO IT) with this jacket. I’m a L and every one of their products I’ve owned I’ve had to get an XL which is what I did with this jacket and I had to return it for an L because it was too big. The arms are especially and inexplicably long. If there’s a reason for this it escapes me. Now if this jacket is worth the price tag only you can decide. Hope this helps and happy shopping!
