This jacket is advertised as a lightweight and well insulated jacket but it's very expensive and poorly insulated.
Definitely not worth the price. One of the pocket zippers doesn't work 98 percent of the time.
The anorak that I purchased is surprisingly warm, even when the temperature drops below freezing. Even the pockets are warm.
The zipper works very well and the elastic waistband actually works very well. A great product!
I bought the electron yellow jacket and have found that it is just the ticket when worn as a VERY warm mid layer under a waterproof, breathable shell, also electron yellow, by same manufacturer. You will NOT be disappointed with this jacket. I have worn both the Phantom hooded jacket and the shell during a blizzard at about 15 degrees below freezing and I was as dry as a bone and as warm as toast.
This jacket has very uniformly distributed down and fits well with a comfortable and adjustable hood. Without a helmet the hood definitely needs to be adjustable, and it is. It's very warm when it's 20 degrees above zero and is so compressible that it can be worn comfortably while driving with a seatbelt. The heat can be turned down in the vehicle while wearing this excellent jacket. The zipper actually is easy to use and it doesn't get hung up in the fabric...can't say that with zippers in many other jackets/shells. I really love this midlayer/outer layer!
This shell is really waterproof and windproof and breathes like it's advertised. The two way zipper has a problem: The lower of the two zipper pulls gets hung up every single time I attempt to pull the lower zipper up, or down. The main zipper consistently works very well. I purchased a large size and the sleeves are about two inches too long but if a puffy down midlayer is worn beneath the shell, the sleeves "shrink" about an inch so sleeve length is no longer a problem, except when the shell is worn without an underlayer. The wire in the hood is useful and works very well when a midlayer with a hood is worn. The shell is indeed light and readily packable but a bit stiff primarily because the main zipper and the two long zippers on the chest are pretty inflexible. All in all, it's a great shell typifying the quality one's is used to expect from Mountain Hardware.
It's a great, very lightweight and attractive layer that requires a modest volume when worn beneath a waterproof, breathable she'll. Definitely worth the small price.
