This chalk has wonderful texture and consistency. I enjoy all of the FrictionLabs chalks but prefer this version because of its tactile feel. It's nice and dry without sucking moisture out of your hands, it lasts and lasts, has a great texture that's consistently smooth and buttery and offers great grip. If you're like me and like to crush little nuggets of chalk between your fingers while you ponder beta or catch a breath between attempts, I can't imagine a more perfect chalk than this!
I'm a big fan of the 8b+ liquid chalk and thought I'd give their dry chalk a shot.
I normally use the FrictionLabs BamBam. This chalk by comparison has a very hard texture and is dry to the point that it doesn't seem to adhere or last as long/well as the FrictionLabs does. When you crush it in your fingers it feels coarse and crusty/grainy. I'm sure that some folks will like it but it's not my particular cup of tea.
I've used several different liquid chalks and this is by far my favorite.
Out of the tube it has a very creamy and spreadable texture. I prefer this to the more pasty chalks—it has a more spreadable consistency to it that lays down a more even and consistent layer of chalk. During application it has a feel more like a lotion.
The chalk doesn't have a strong alcohol odor like most other liquid chalk does. If i had to describe it, it has a vaguely latex paint smell that reminds me of a recently painted house. It's not offensive or overpowering. It still dries pretty quickly.
What I really appreciate about this chalk is its staying power. It goes on and turns to a smooth, dry, even coat of chalk that feels durable. Compared to the FrictionLabs Secret Stuff (my go-to prior to discovering this chalk) it lasts longer. It goes on and remains on as a durable base-coat. It also doesn't dry out my skin the same way that other liquid chalks have. It provides a really nice dry, solid, lasting, grippy chalk.
I find that I use slightly more of this chalk than I do others; part of that may be that it's more "liquid-y" coming out of the tube which may prompt you to squeeze a little more than you might intend. Or, it may be that it has a lotion-like feel going on that subconsciously encourages a more generous squeeze.
