Best women's low-volume backpack I've tried

Written on Nov 17, 2016

I'm 5'4" but have a relatively long torso, so finding a women's-specific low volume pack (which seem to be less adjustable than larger packs) has been tough. The waist strap on most packs I've tried ends up way up on my torso just below my rib cage, which means that the weight of the pack is on my shoulders instead of my hips - not comfortable! I originally tried the men's version of this pack (Miwok 12), and the length of the pack itself was perfect, but it was a little too wide and the shoulder straps squished my boobs uncomfortably. Otherwise I loved it so I thought I'd give the Maya a shot, and I'm glad I did! While the pack itself is a little short for me (when the bottom is resting on my hips the top is several inches below the tops of my shoulders), it's amazingly adjustable and comfortable. The waist strap rides up a little if the bag isn't fully loaded with stuff, but I'm still able to keep most of the weight on my hips. And when it is loaded down, this isn't an issue at all. As far as the rest of the pack goes, it's incredibly well thought out, and I appreciate that it has a pretty minimal design while still being extremely functional. I even think it's worth mentioning that the key fob is VERY sturdy - your keys will not be unclipping themselves. (I've lost keys before because of wimpy key fobs, so this is important to me.) In an ideal world, the women's would come in a "long torso" version, but otherwise this pack is perfect!
