Premium WP jacket at a entry price point

Written on Nov 30, 2015

I was actually looking for an emergency WP shell when I come across this. Very light weight and very waterproof at 20k mm. Decent breath-ability rating at 15-20k, it obviously doesn't breath as well as my Schoeller jacket, but the Schoeller also isn't waterproof. Mammut sizing also run small, so a guy like me, who is in between a small and a medium can find an excellent fit in a Mammut medium. Fabric is stretchy as well, which is usually only available in a premium WP membrane. A full set of features such as ample pockets, pit zip, hem cord, and a helmet compatible hood (note: if you have a big helmet, you should size up).

There is one weird things that I notice with this jacket. When you put first put it on against your bare skin, it send a cold chill down your spin. It like the jacket is coated with a thin layer of metal or something.

It's in my backpack during day hike, climbing and camping trips. Really happy with this purchase. Excellent value.

Size chart was way off

Written on Oct 16, 2015

I have a 31 inch waist and 37 inch hip. It look like the waist might be a little tight but the hip would be perfect. Turns out the hip was extremely tight, I have to stretch the pant just to get in with just my underwear. It feels like the small is a 32 inch waist and a 34 inch hip. Look closely at the picture, it looks like the hip and waist size are pretty close. The inseam were also extremely long (feel like 33inch on the small), which isn't a big deal since the hem can be tighten.

On the good size, it is extremely light, and pack down to the size of a wind shell. Unfortunately I'll have to return this. I didn't have time to really test this, however it would have been awesome as an emergency rain shell.
