I purchased this because I needed something heavier than a shell but lighter than a cold weather parka. It would be my in-between go-to jacket.
So, I've wearing this for several weeks when I walk the dog—and temperatures are in the low 40s and high 30s. Normally, I would zip up the front zipper, but discovered that it made the throat protection area a little high for me. If, however, I was in a driving rainstorm or cold wind, the zipper would be all the way up!
Each time I put it on, it doesn't feel like it fits. Something in the shoulders, it seems. So I zip it 3/4 of the way up and it molds to my shape! This is a jacket that does not hang well on me, and it tends to flop way open if I don't zip it.
I like the insulated hood, although I haven't figured out how to tighten it when facing the wind. The slash pockets are deep and fleece lined with zippers. There is one inside pocket that could hold a small iPad or Kindle but I haven't used it yet.
This jacket has pit zips. There are many times I return from a brisk walk with the dog and wished I could have opened them while I walked. No possible way. I tried moving the zippers while the jacket was flat on my table and it was very difficult. I don't see how they can be useful if you are unable to open them while moving around. (This removed one star from my rating.)
In sum, I'm glad I have it. If it rains or gets really windy, this jacket will keep me warm and dry.
