Good not great 3.5

Written on Mar 25, 2024

I’ve had this boot short term on multiple outings. Minimum break in time, very supportive, and comfortable. This is a fairly light boot for day hikes but confident enough for multi day backpacking trips in my opinion. Soles are deep, very sticky, and reassuring on most terrain that I’ve encountered. They fit true to size unless you have wider feet or wear thicker socks…size up. The 1.5 ding. A very important one. For me these just were not waterproof, even using gaiters. After rain, streams being a little higher than usual, muddy or somewhat wet trails. These did not keep my feet dry consistently on multiple treks. They were never submerged and never seen more than a light snowfall (less than 2”)….. It’s a dryer climate 3 season boot in my opinion. I’m in the NE (wet seasons are unavoidable) so I was somewhat disappointed the Gore-Tex liner wasn’t adequate. By no means did I think this would be a winter boot when purchasing but I did feel with thicker socks and Gore-Tex they could handle some of the shoulder seasons. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case. Overall, it’s a good boot in many respects just a poor one in a crucial area.
