Okay. I just ran over to the Black Diamond store to get to the bottom of this basket issue. Even though the baskets look like they twist on, they don't. You have to jam them on with a ton of force while twisting and then eventually they will pop on. Beware that if you don't really jam them on there they will fall off. I had to put about half my body weight on to them to get them to slide on. But once they are on they are on!

Black Diamond Expedition 3 Ski Poles
As other reviewers have stated, the baskets on these fall off so easily. I just took them out for the first time and must have snagged them on a bush and lost one of the baskets. I read other reviewers that mentioned the same thing. I figured they were installing them wrong. They weren't. These were just poorly designed. If you hit a bush or tree even slightly with your basket prepare to have them ripped off. Would not buy again.
