Petzl Pantin Foot Ascender
The Pantin is okay if you're not trying to make tree climbing full time where production and efficiency are the name of the game. The reason the Pantin slows me down is because the rope doesn't like to stay seated in the cam when you're foot is moving up too quickly or slightly at an angle. The rope just can pop out too easily. And you notice this while moving quick on the rope. It's unfortunate because otherwise this product is a fantastic piece of gear. The straps and buckles are high quality and not liable to slip off the boot or tear up.

Petzl Chicane Auxiliary Brake
If you have a Zig-Zag or are thinking about getting a Zig-Zag, take the plunge and buy the Chicane as well! The Zig-Zag with the chicane make for an unstoppable srt-system. Easy to learn and use, durable, and easy to equip/unequip on the system. Best part, you can take the chicane off or put it on, mid rope. No need to feed the rope all the way through the system. Makes for easy transitions from drt to srt.

Petzl Zigzag Plus Descender
I don't do a whole lot of technical climbing but I do climb a lot. Sometimes up to 20 trees a day. And this devices shines above all else. I can leave it on the rope all day without having to re-tie knots or place gear back on, I can pick up right where I left off and roll into the next tree. It travels smoothly both up and down the rope and when coupled with the chicane the transition from drt to srt is seemless. Highly recommend this product for any tree climber but especially those who spend most there day on conifers going up and down with some limb walking.
