very nice compass

Written on Jul 11, 2016

A very finely crafted compass. It comes with useful instructions. The numbers are clear easy to read. Some mirrored compasses are very large or confusing. This one is fairly compact. Only two issues that are minor. It would be nice to have some soft case or microfiber pouch to store it in. I live in a very duty abrasive desert environment. The other is the lanyard attaches with a small clip. It is supposed to remove easily so the compass lies flat on a map. It does not remove quite so easily for me. Also, the way the cord runs through the clip seems like it would slip out easily. Over a very nice, compact, finely crafted compass.

Great Sized bag

Written on Jul 02, 2015

I bought this bag looking for an in between size and this one is just about right for a day pack with water system. I like the new ventilation system on the back though you are still going to sweat out in the heat. It is much improved over the traditional Camel-back. There are plenty of pockets for storage and there is a handy little zipper pocket on the right side of the belt to put a compass GPS or small-ish phone. It will not hold the new big mungo phones or GPSs. The top center of the bag is open to put a rain top or other items to get to quickly. Adjustments are pretty good for a bag this size and the load lifter straps even work as intended. The waist belt could be more padded and robust because you can actually overload this bag; it is very roomy for it's class. All in all, a very good bad for a day trip or over-niter if you used to living close to the earth. Very pleased with this bag. Thanks for fantastic service CAMPSAVER

Tough Boot

Written on Apr 23, 2015

I purchased this boot on the advice of the Campsaver staff and I was not disappointed. This is a very tough all leather boot that is leather lined; no Gortex. All stitching and seams are very precise and sturdy. Expect to have a fairly significant break in period. I would say around 20-30 miles, perhaps more. I live in Very rough, thorny, rocky terrain so need a boot to withstand the elements. Most lighter boots are comfortable but not durable in this environment. They run true to size. I ordered an 11 reg and my actual foot size is about 10.5 and only slightly wide. I wear an orthotic and there was sufficient volume for that plus smart wool socks and liners. The top of the boot is very open so may tend to open up while walking. I found a way of lacing of you-tube that lock the laces and keeps my heel well back. No blisters. My first hike 8 miles; lots of rocks. No issues. One ding is the insert which has minimal arch support or padding. Great service from Campsaver.
