This was billed as the ice axe to carry if you may never need one and you won't feel guilty about lugging it along anyway. That is exactly what it is and in the event of a needed self arrest or just an extra hold somewhere I think it will be perfect. Right or wrong I took the rubber ring that holds the leash on my Neve ice axe and put it at the bottom of this one for something to pull down against. I think it will work...I'll find out:)

CAMP Corsa Ice Axe-60 cm

Comes in at 8.8 oz on my scale for the 60 cm version. Will be using on the PCT for the Sierra section. Camp Saver has had excellent customer service thus far, and has a wider selection than other sites. This version is perfect for my height, at 5'10".

This is my "just in case" axe for winter hikes in the Adirondacks. Haven't had to use it yet which is why this is so perfect -- at 7.8 ounces (for the 60cm) you'll never know it's on your pack
