xenon 4 trekking pole

by Dave r., Written on July 24, 2015
The short story: for the right situation, these are well thought out, well built, and made from quality components and materials.

The long story: I am not really a trekking pole user, but recently had a couple of hikes where I had to finish up on an injury or traverse a couple of unexpected wash outs. I did not have poles either time and really wished that I did. However, I couldn't justify carrying them for the few times I need them. And that perfect stick that I thought I would just find on the ground when I needed it was, of course, never there.

Enter these xenon trekking poles. They're rediculously light and are shock corded. This makes them much more compact than collapsable styles. I hardly notice that I'm carrying them.

They do have a couple of quirks. The shock cord is a rigid line rather than bungee. The cord is held tight with a knot in the line tucked into a notch inside the handle. It can be adjusted for tightness by tying the knot farther up or down the line. It needs to be very tight to hold the sections in place. Even with the cord extremely tight, there is a microscopic amount of play in the pole. It doesn't bother me but may annoy the avid trekking pole user.

They come in a longer and shorter size. I'm right at 6 feet tall and I got the longer ones. These were actually a bit long for my height. But the extra length works for me as I primarily use them for crossings or adverse conditions.

All in all I'm very happy with them
