I preferred the evo 3 - Chaco OutCross EVO 4 Watersport Shoe - Mens

I really love the pair of Outcross Evo 3 that I have, so much so that I was about to buy a backup pair. That's when I discovered the Evo 4. I love Chaco products- I have a pair of their sandals and have an older pair of shoes that lasted years. I liked the styling on the Evo 4 (and so did my wife), but when they arrived they were not quite what I hoped for. Size 12 fit perfect in the Evo 3, but was all around too small in the Evo 4- especially in the toe box (and I go for Chacos bc of the wide toe box!). Secondly, the lacing does not go up as high and my foot did not feel as secure as in the Evo 3. Lastly, I thought the padding in the Evo 4 was comfortable but was overkill. It is way too chunky in the ankle area and made me feel/look like I had a swollen sprained ankle when I looked down.

Perhaps a size 13 would fit me just fine, but I can't get past how chunky the padding appears around the ankle in relation to the rest of the shoe, so I just did a simple return instead of an exchange. I will be buying a pair of backup Evo 3 after all. Too bad- I loved the way they looked online.

Overall, the shoe was still very well constructed- very much up to Chaco standards.
