This is my first down jacket, so I don't have any others to compare it to, but I have been extremely impressed so far. I bought this jacket for a winter trip to the Bolivian altiplano where temps range daily from 20-65 F. Mid-day in the sun the jacket was a little too warm, but extremely comfortable in the shade and when temps were hitting their low. The hood was a real game changer multiple times when the wind picked up.

This jacket is great to travel with due to the large zippered pockets. I could stash valuables in the side pockets without worry of getting picked. The smaller chest pocket was great for frequently accessed items like hand sanitizer and chapstick. The jacket is also so soft, comfortable and warm that it served multiple duties as a blanket and pillow.

In terms of size and fit, I am 5'9", 135 lbs, 36" chest, and the jacket fits great. It's a little snug with a trim cut, so if you are planning a significant base layer then maybe go a size up. I ran a thin, wool base layer several times and was very comfortable. The jacket itself is pretty thick (albeit very compressible), so also take that into account for outer layers.

Overall, I got this on sale and feel like it was probably the best purchase I could have made. I'm very happy with this jacket.

I love this coat. It's light, sporty, and warm. almost too warm at times. It would be nice to have vent zippers at armpits, but most coats in this style do not. Runs tight (order size up). I highly recommend this coat.
