It’s pretty hard to get excited about a tarp. That is until you’re caught in a blinding rainstorm, which is exactly what happened to me the first time out with the new ProFly Sil. It performed flawlessly and kept me completely dry. It’s always a little unnerving to trust your camping experience to untested gear, but this little tarp didn’t let me down. Coupled with my 19oz Krazy Outdoors netted hammock and ENO ultralight Helios straps, I was able to shed 4 full pounds by leaving my 2 man Alps Chaos behind. Total weight was just 41 ounces / 2.57 pounds. This incredibly light system simply wouldn’t be possible without the ProFly Sil, which comes in at just 16oz. This is my new go to system and can even be erected on the ground using hiking poles, if trees aren’t available. I looked at buying the ENO Sub 7 hammock and matching Guardian SL bug net, but with a weight savings of only 3 oz. over my existing system and a price tag north of $100, I believe I’ve reached Nirvana. If you’re on the fence about the ProFly Sil, go ahead and get it - you won’t be disappointed. It rolls up to the size of a nalgene bottle and will keep you safe from the elements.
