My timberline 2 died unexpectedly...after 30 years! - Eureka Timberline 2-Person Tent

deluxestogie's Review of Eureka Timberline 2-Person Tent
Mine was different from other Timberlines. It was entirely sand-colored. No green. No logo. It was from a long time ago.
I loved this tent, and it will be missed. It made it through the length of the Tonto Trail in the Grand Canyon, as well as numerous other treks there. It knew the Rockies and the Appalachian Trail, and scores of other remote places in the US. It was always sturdy, even in wind storms. It never leaked. It never dripped condensation. It just did its job. It could be set it up in total darkness on a moonless night. All of the components went together logically and without frustration. It was free-standing, for pitching on a rock slab or hard-packed campsite. After about 20 years of use, one little metal ring on a pull-out bungee of the fly came apart. But it kept on going and going.
If passed on in the summer of 2019 at the age of 30, following a brief crisis, when it's nylon zippers just couldn't be restored to functionality, despite the best efforts.
In lieu of flowers, just buy one of these while you still can.
The weight was never a significant consideration until I was approaching my 60s. Now at the age of 71, I look back on the lighter, more clever tents that I have used. My Timberline 2 was the best by a wide margin.
