Very nice product, though a little heavy

by KarlosJ83, Gear Expert from UT, United States Written on September 10, 2011
I constantly try to minimize the weight in my backpack, but I consider a chair kit for my sleepindg pad to be an essential piece of gear. Why? Because I generally spend hours sitting around camp after a long day of hiking, and the comfort provided by a cushy back-supporting pad/chair more than offsets the extra weight in my pack.

The Exped Chair Kit is heavier than other chair kits I've carried,
Most Helpful Positive Review Very comfortable chair - I modified mine
I have used the Thermarest chair kits, liked them both. When I purchased an Exped Synmat UL7 Long wide,I purchased the exped chair kit. Nice setup! I like the sleeve that protects the entire pad, and especially like the way you can use it as a lounger in cold conditions. My first impression was that it's a bit heavy, but if you compare it with a Helinox chair, it's about the same weight, and if I want to sit well off the ground, I just use it sitting on a log or rock or whatever. I don't mind being at ground level, it allows me to more easily use my stove. A suggestion in the video is to leave...

Good purchase

by Kevin M., Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on January 22, 2016
Overall I really like this. Yes, it does not pack down as well as I would like, and getting the poles out of their sleeves is a royal pain. However, once it is all together it really makes my tent experience so much more enjoyable. I do not use this outside the tent as a chair - for that I have a Helinox chair which is much more comfortable. As I get older I find it is not as easy for me to get up from ground chairs and the like. However - this makes a huge difference for me inside the tent. After I retire for the night I can elevate the back and use it as a lounger. I have enough room in my tent that it allows me to read at night comfortably. It is also helpful to elevate my head and chest - I suffer from acid reflux and by elevating I can keep it at bay, especially if I have a large meal later at night than normal.

It is fairly easy to adjust the angle as well, although I have had a few times where I had to fully sit up and mess with the straps to get them to release.

Not sure I would take it backpacking, but it stays on the pad for all my regular camping trips.

Disappointed

by david u., Written on August 3, 2015
Bought the MW version, and while the chair is very comfortable, it is a pain the butt.

- The support poles were very difficult to get in and out, so in order to pack it up, it’s easier to just wrap it sloppily with the poles in place. Which makes the stuff sack kind of useless, because it’s made big enough for both the chair kit and the mat.

- It also fit too snug. I had a really hard time zipping and unzipping, so changing the air pressure was a hassle.

- It’s just generally heavy and bulky.

My SynMat is the greatest thing ever. This chair kit…just not good, though.

Exped Chair Kit

by Andrew Catbagan, from CA, United States Written on July 7, 2015
This my third Exped Chair Kit. I returned the first two to Campsaver because the stiffener-rods in the kit were next to impossible to remove. In the first two kits, I was only able to remove one or two of the four stiffeners. In the third kit I received, the stiffeners are easily removable. I still wish the kit had the pillow pocket the previous generation chair kit had. I use the chair kit with my Exped Downmat 5 Lite inflatable sleeping pad. The materials used have proven very durable. I've used the chair kit on dirt, gravel and rocky terrain. With the stiffeners removed, I open the zipper to deflate the sleeping pad, leave the pad in the chair kit cover and roll it up to a pretty compact package. I can roll it up the combined chair kit and sleeping pad to within 20-30% of the size of the Down Mat 5 Lite by itself.

Expel Chair-Kit, medium size

by Andrew Catbagan, from CA, United States Written on April 27, 2015
I am disappointed with the quality control of this product. The four aluminum stiffeners are supposed to be removable for a more compact storage or when not needed. The first one I ordered, I was only able to remove two of the stays. I returned it to CampSaver for an exchange. On the second one, I was only able to remove one stiffener. Everything else on the chair-kit is top notch Exped quality. At the time of this review, CampSaver is out of stock on the chair-kit. I will reorder one last time when they refill their stock. Hopefully Exped has caught the problem, and fixed it. I own several Exped products and have faith in them.

Not as useful as I hoped

by Norman J., Written on March 27, 2015
while the chair kid did I fact turn my Exped sleep pad into a chair, I discovered I didn't need the chair very much and leaving it on the pad meant the pad would no longer fit into my pack or it's stuff sack. When completely folded the chair kit was bigger than my tent poles and has to be strapped to the outside of my pack. I sent the chair kit home to decrease pack weight. It wasn't worth the carry.

well worth the added weight!

Not only does this char kit serve as an awesome low rider camp chair but it's also great for sleeping on. Ever try to get in your sleeping bag and your pad slide everywhere inside the tent? Not with this kit. It's great to have on the trail!

Good Chair Kit

by KayakerDawn, Written on August 5, 2014
My husband and I have purchased chair kits for our current and previous Thermarest mats. These are great for protecting the mat and for allowing it to be converted to a chair when camping on islands (when kayaking). The material on this chairkit is quite slippery which I don't like but otherwise it is good.

The best chair kit on the market!

by Yatesy, from NSW, Australia Written on April 3, 2014
This is a wonderfully designed chair kit. It's simple to use, quick to setup, extremely comfortable and you don't have to take the mat out when you want to sleep. The chair kit is designed to be packed away with the mattress still inside, but I found that while this cuts down on time, it does take up more space. The quality is excellent, I'm 185cm and 95kg and the chair kit takes my height and wei
