Exped Expedition 100 XL backpack

I wanted a large pack to handle several day hikes for me and the dog. The Exped XL backpack series is for wider hips and shoulders. XL 100 weight is 6.1 pounds. XL 100 rough measured dimensions are 31 inches high, 18 inches wide, 12 inches deep. Calculates to 109 liters. Top lid with waterproof zipper compartment. Roll up and clip pack top entry under the top lid seems waterproof. Closure with metal hooks and central closure has a carabiner. Front side daisy chains. Padded adjustable shoulder harness. Side compression straps. Rated to carry 77 pounds. Padded adjustable hip belt. Side pockets. 420 D HD oxford nylon, PU coated. "Weatherproof" seam taped. Double layer base. Two ice axe loops. Clear plastic "bag" with water proof zipper attached inside the pack. Two fabric loops inside pack. One of the interior fabric loops has an extra strap tied to it. This is not a pack that you grab and go. It has a learning curve. A lot of straps and adjustments you can make to customize the fit for the load and it takes time to identify and use all the straps. This pack is not waterproof, but it has water resistant features. A drizzle won't bother it.. For me this pack's extensive features are too much. I'm not a serious mountain climber. I wanted a big pack to throw stuff in and go away for a few days. The pack is big, it was on sale, so I'll keep it. Doubt I'll ever figure out all the straps and adjustments.
Pros:
  • Large and relatively light for heavy loads
Cons:
  • Lots of straps (could be a pro for some)
Best Used for:
  • MOUNTAINEERING
Would recommend: Yes
