Ummmm...wow. - Exped MegaMat 10 Sleeping Pad

Like you, I read all the reviews online, tried to swallow the price, then finally bit the bullet and just DID IT and I am SO GLAD I did. I've even purchased a second one and will be eventually buying a third...and then most likely a fourth, one for each family member. For car camping I'm not sure there could be anything better. Got its first use on the rocky ground in Moab and if ANYTHING was too hard it was the mattress. You can inflate or DEFLATE the mattress to your desired firmness for a perfect's night sleep. I'm a big dude (6'3/210) and there was plenty of room to sleep comfortably on the LXW. Takes a little of time to inflate but the included little hand/foot pump does the ticket.

You see that, I even unconsciously referred to this as a MATTRESSES rather than a sleeping pad...just get one.
