Dutch's Review of Fjallraven Singi Down Jacket - Men's
Everything a parka should be. It's incredibly warm. I wear it with 1-2 baselayers in subzero temps and it's toasty, even during low-exertion activities like ice fishing, wildlife surveys, or slow walks. To me it provides the perfect amount of coverage, coming down as it does to about mid-thigh. The fabric is substantial, holding up to abuse (like carrying in splintery firewood), yet it still looks sharp in town. The hood fits well, is adjustable, and I appreciate that the ruff has a wire so you can conform it to your needs. And yes, it has pockets galore...enough to store about anything you'd need, from a water bottle and spare gloves to fiddly things like compass, lighter, etc.
If you're regularly tearing your mountaineering-style puffs, if you're chilly because they stop at the waist, leaving your hips exposed, or if you're wearing them out prematurely, do yourself a favor and take a look at this parka. It's awesome. As usual, campsaver was great with delivery and on post-season price. This is not an ultralight option--it's substantial and heavy, and is built to last a lifetime. It is also warmer and much higher quality than other parkas I've used from TNF, Llbean, eddiebauer, and even patagonia...at the expense of weight. The only thing that's a little funky is the euro zipper, which is reversed from what we're used to in the US.
For reference, I'm 6'1", 195, 34" waist, 44" chest, 34" arms. The size L fits me very well, which is to say full coverage and loose enough for base layers plus a fleece, but not baggy. If you're after a slimmer fit for fashion, you might consider sizing down.
