I finally had a chance to travel with this, went to Bali, and can tell you this set up doesn't work at all. First of all, as I had read in another review, the aluminum handle inside the backpack is definitely wonky and poorly designed. It's flimsy and tilted to one side even though I did not have that much in the main compartment. The backpack is another story. You can't attach it if there is really much in it, so what's the point. It is way to heavy for a backpack (over 4 lbs) to carry on the plane. So I would suggest buy a lightweight suitcase and buy a lightweight backpack. Forget the hybrid. I wish I had read this review before I bought it from campsaver.
