Hilleberg soulo: excellent one-person shelter at mid-weight - Hilleberg Soulo 1 Tent - 1 Person, 4 Season

Ben Sisko's Review of Hilleberg Soulo 1 Tent - 1 Person, 4 Season
I have been impressed with the quality, versatility, and security offered by the Soulo. The livability within the shelter seems better than I expected, not being able to infect the tent before buying one; interior space seems to be greater than what was apparent online. This is the only shelter I have which is both freestanding and has a relatively large integral, covered vestibule. The availability of accessories such as a mesh inner tent, spare poles, and footprint are welcome; I will comment regarding the footprint separately.
Since I come from a background of using ultralight shelters such as the HMG Ultramid 2, MLD Duomid, and Z Packs Duplex, I find the weight penalty to be the greatest negative about the Soulo. I currently plan to use it mostly as a basecamp/carcamp shelter and the lighter mids for most other trips, but time will tell.
Despite the weight issue, I would highly recommend the Soulo for someone who wants a freestanding shelter of outstanding overall quality, and expects to encounter severe weather conditions-especially snow loads. It would help if you could retain both kidneys in the process of obtaining it.
