I couldn't imagine any other device I would use to purify the rivers and streams other than THIS Katadyn Vario Water Filter. An absolute necessity when in the back country of Philmont. No iodine tablets required.
It clogs quickly after trying to purify stream water immediately after a heavy rain. Best if used when the sediment has settled.
