Reviews & Ratings for Kelly Kettle Large Hobo Stove

This is more stable than the pot support for larger pots and pans. Also if you want to use your fire base for keeping warm (i.e. where open campfires are not allowed) you will be able to build a much larger fire and have to add fuel less often. I was able to build a vertical fire with flames kicking up to three feet high, which put out quite a bit of heat. Very usefull for cold weather camping.

This makes an already great system complete. The Kelly Kettle was kind of a one-trick pony. Even with the pot support and the grill, it was more a water boiler than anything else. This stove has a lot going for it. It's inexpensive, has no moving parts, and is pretty much unbreakable short of running it over. If you bring an alcohol stove, the top part functions as a pot support for that as well. (Hint: To boil a Kelly over an alcohol burner, block off about 75% of the chimney with a can lid, foil, or whatever is handy. This keeps the heat from escaping too quickly.) Admittedly, the system is too bulky for ultralight hiking, but is terrific for car camping, canoeing, or other pursuits where size isn't so much an issue. I use mine on my sailboat to make shore lunches, as well using the kettle over the boat's stove.
Pros:
Inexpensive, simple, durable
Cons:
Bulky
Best Used for:
Car camping, canoeing, horse packing, emergency preparedness.

Great addition to the Kelly Kettle stove. Just beware of sharp edges. I took a file and deburred all the sharp edges. Other than this, I'm quite happy... this would be Five stars, but minus one for sharp edges...
