Laura K.'s Review of CampSaver Klymit Static V Sleeping Pad

First off, this sleeping pad is AWESOME (as stated in the title). Second, allow me to preface by saying that our previous backpacking sleeping mats were a nightmare--some kind of old foam that was not much different than lying on the hard ground, plus they never laid flat after being rolled out, but hey, they were free. Anyway, not to knock roll-up mats, because I'm sure significant improvements have been made to their design since our old mats were made, but the point is, we were in desperate need of something more comfortable. A friend of mine spent $100+ on a Thermarest and loves it, but we are on a budget and at this time not in need of anything too fancy or necessarily four-season-ready. We had previously bought one of Klymit's X Pillows on sale here at Camp Saver for like $12 or something crazy, and I was actually happier with it than the highly-rated Sea to Summit Aeros Ultra Light pillow that I bought at REI for over $40; the X Pillow just cradles your head better--that's another product I'd recommend. While looking for a sleeping bag for my husband, this sleeping pad (also on sale) randomly popped up in my results and I was ecstatic, because at the time they were like $35 and backed by some pretty great reviews--all of which proved to be true. This pad is incredible and uses a similar technology to the X pillow, using an interconnected air pocket system that keeps the air from being displaced or redistributed when you lay on it, and it's very effective. The only down side to that is that it's design does make it a little tricky to get all the air out and rolled back into the stuff bag it comes with, but it's worth it for the comfort. You do not touch the ground when you lay on it--even my 6'3", 210-pound husband--and it is in fact quite comfortable for side sleepers like myself. I am just amazed at how comfortable I am on it, honestly, especially after what I was sleeping on before. It inflates in about 15 moderate breaths--12 if you're really breathing deep and seeing stars, haha--so very easy setup. It's lightweight, compact, comes with a patch kit (the pad seems to be made of a very durable material) and Klymit stands by their products, so I am very satisfied and confident in this purchase and I look forward to spending many more nights sleeping on this pad in the great outdoors!
