Mtnclimber's Review of La Sportiva G2 SM Mountaineering Boot - Men's
Wonderful boots! Already had the Nepal Evos for ice climbing, but bought these 9 months before a Mt. Rainier climb to break them in on some winter CO 14ers. No real break-in needed, as they fit perfectly. The BOA system is awesome, but beware, you can easily get it way too tight. No worries though as it's SO easy and quick to adjust, no fiddling with laces. One BOA for the lower foot and 1 for the upper. Also compared them against the Nepal Evos ice climbing in Ouray, CO . They are larger boots than the Nepal Evos, and felt less precise. Crampon fit was excellent with Petzl Lynx and Vasak crampons. VERY pleased with them on Rainier, and love the ability to remove the inner boot for drying overnight. No problems or worries with the BOA system at all. BOA will send you a repair kit at no charge to keep as a spare. I wear a size US 9 and bought the 42.5 to fit SmartWool liners with expedition weight socks (and prevent toe bang). Never had even slightly cold feet while standing around on belay or while climbing. Lighter than the Nepal Evos. Not COMPLETELY waterproof, had slight leakage while crossing a wide running stream 'cause the Velcro wasn't fully fastened.
Pros:
Light weight
warm
removable liners
integrated gaiter
BOA lacing system
Cons:
pricey
Best Used for:
ice climbing
winter mountaineering
