DM's Review of Mad Rock Lotus Climbing Shoe - Womens
I bought these 4 months ago because I was looking for a comfortable, but aggressive bouldering shoe. I have a pair of Madrock Lyra's, which I love, and so I thought these would be an excellent next step. The biggest issue with these shoes is the sizing. They run very small, and yes, you have to size up. For reference, I wear a women's 7.5 in the La Sportiva Miura (lace-up) and Fiveten Sirens. I wear women's size 8 in the Evolv Rockstar and 8.5-9 in Evolv Shaman LV. I wear a size 9 in the Madrock Lyra. After reading all of the reviews about the sizing I contacted Madrock and asked their advice. They suggested 1/2 size larger than my Lyras, so I bought these in a 9.5. This is the most I have ever had to size up for any climbing shoe ever!. However, the staff at Madrock was correct. These shoes fit perfect with toes comfortably curled. A little snug at first, but stretched just enough.
These are the most awesome heel hooking shoes ever, mostly because they fit my heel so perfectly. I also like the way the wrap around the arch of my foot for added comfort and stability. These shoes are very soft/sensitive, and I generally prefer a stiffer shoe, but I am getting use to this. You can definitely feel the rock through these.
The only con is that I am not really wild about the color. They say it is purple, but it looks like a dark pink to me. This is not a big deal to me, so I am still very happy with the shoes, but if I was choosing the color, it would be something different.
To sum it up, they are comfortable (by climbing shoe standards), aggressive, and the best heel hooking shoes ever, and all for a much more affordable price than many other companies (La Sportiva for example). So I saved money, climb just as well, and I am not wearing the exact same shoes as everyone else at the crag/gym (which is another perk).
Pros:
- Price
- COMFORT
- performance
