Recreational Tree Climbing Lanyard Adjuster?
For Tree Climbers....I got my Safeguard and did some low and slow practice maneuvers using a throw hook/lanyard. The difference between the Safeguard and the Lifeguard, is what makes the (non-spring) Safeguard suitable for Tree Climbing, whereas the Lifeguard is not.
1st impression was that it seems a bit frail. The moving parts rattle around a bit when unweighted, and when lightly weighted, pushing down inadvertently or intentionally on the cam releases the climbing line, allowing it to slide freely in a bidirectional way. This becomes less of a concern when fully weighted, but raises concer...

Solid construction and works as expected
Using this as a hold/descender with 8mm rope for saddle hunting and it worked flawlessly. I watched a video or two on how to use it and one of them enabled me to confidently gear up pre-light. I would highly recommend this!

Works Great!!
I use this device to rappel out of trees while Saddle Hunting…. Very smooth and solid. I use it with a 9mm Canyon Elite Ripe with no slipping. I highly recommend this product. They were hard to find last year however they are In Stock in most places now.

Mad Rock Safeguard
It does what it is designed for and after a little practice is smooth and consistent as a climbing aid. I have found it to be very reliable and it locks instantly when you need it to. Even with that all said I still use a secondary backup prusik knot when climbing.

Stay safe w/Safeguard
Light, small and easy to use. This has very smooth action while ascending as a safety belay. Using this for SRT ascending; only 35-30ft, so although there are smoother descenders, this gets me back to ground safely.
Pros:
- Simple to use.
Cons:
- None

ISA Certified Arborist
I like the compact design of this device. The light weight is a plus. It releases pretty smoothly under load, and tends slack pretty easily. I use this as a work positioning lanyard when I need a second attachment point.

Awesome belay device
This is a great belay device, smaller and more solidly built than any GriGri, less expensive as well. Nice to be able to set it and let go of the brake strand when in self belay mode. The weight of the rope in conjunction with the springless design makes it very safe. The only caveat is if you want to feed out line you have to apply force to the brake release which might be confusing to less experienced climbers.
Pros:
- Price
- DURABILITY
- Value
Cons:
- Complexity
Best Used for:
- Rescue or self belay
