I'm rating this item at three stars because it does allow me to what was nearly impossible to do safely solo, load a kayak on my tall SUV, but, only after I made significant modifications. First problem I ran into was the clearance between the huge “nuts” (the site’s crazy PC police deemed the word kn.bs as not family friendly, so I call them nuts) on the slip collars and the side of my vehicle. The angle of the lift to the vehicle had to be excessive to provide safe clearance between the top collar “nut” and the quarter panel. I made smaller “nuts” to solve the problem, could not find a smaller replacement at hardware stores, the thread is metric. Second problem, also related to clearance to the side of my vehicle, is caused by bad design of the loader foot. As the kayak is loaded, the foot flips up, and clearance to the “nuts” and the car is reduced. If you're already close because of the protruding “nuts”, there will be damage, a dent. I added plates to the bottom of the foot plates to extend them 2" past the heel. The foot plate no longer flips when loading. Last problem is also a design issue. The slip collars have an interference fit to the round extensions. Even with the “nuts” completely loose, it was difficult to move the round tubes through the collar from day one. A few months later, it is now extremely difficult to adjust the tubes. Dry lubricants don't appear to help, and I can't very well try oil or grease. I will have to enlarge the size of the hol...
