the new version is a thinner and lighter. The big difference is the inside. Whatever the fabric is on the liner, it feels much better than the scratchy sort of nylon like liner. The jacket still has the huge pit zips that go from the bottom hem of the jacket almost to the elbow. The new version also has a chest pocket. Still great Windproof fabric and feels like better breathability. Not disappointed at all.

I bought this because out of the current crop of soft shell hoodies, this has several reviews saying it was a bit warmer and could work in colder conditions. I’m near Chicago so the winters here are brutally cold, but I also do a full month of hiking/backpacking each summer out in the Rockies and it’ll frequently get down to 30-40 on the mountains. I was wanting something that could work well for both things like my old soft shell did which was made with the marmot m1 fabric. This was NOT that jacket. It is very thin. Even thinner and less warm than the marmot moblis I purchased first (m2 material) and also returned. Besides that it just didn’t feel substantial. I’m guessing this is perfect for some conditions but to me it seemed like the conditions I would use this for, I’d probably be going without a jacket anyway. I also didn’t enjoy the pit zips coming all the way down. They had a tendency to ride up and open even when I was wanting them closed because the jacket was a little tighter in fit. I wear an xxl usually and this was more like an xl. I also didn’t like the left hand zipper. All in all. I’m sure this would be perfect for a very specific activity and temperature. But it is not very versatile and it’s not even warm enough to be very useful in my opinion. This may be on me, but I thought I was getting a medium weight soft shell but this is about the lightest I’ve ever seen.
