Most Helpful Positive Review Marmot Alpinist Jacket
Great jacket, sheds rain like your covered in Rainex! Absolutely no leaks or seepage, nice trim fit but still room to layer an insulation piece underneath. I currently own an Arcterx Beta AR, and I prefer the Marmot!! I highly recommend it.

Great Shell

by Hubbard, from FL, United States Written on March 28, 2019
Extremely light & versatile. We are skiing Vail & temps are climbing into the 60's. Base layer w/ the zips open is the trick for Espree skiing. This shell is completely wind & water proof. The coat is very light weight and tough as nails.

Great jacket but sizing is off

by Loui, from CO, United States Written on March 13, 2018
I am a long time fan of Marmot products dating back to the mid 90's. One of my favorite pieces is an old mid 90's Lightweight Alpinist jacket. The older version was a 3 layer Gore Tex and honestly did not breath that well., although It has a great fit and the material was supple.

I have been wanting to purchase the newer version as it is lighter and I hope that it would breath better.
As they were on sale this month I ordered one, a size small, which is what I am.
I am disappointed in this version for a variety of reasons.
The first is that while it is a lighter weight jacket the material is extremely stiff and feels cardboard like.
The other and more important reason is the fit. The Sleeves are a lot longer than the previous version coming down to almost the base of my fingers.
The jacket is long in the front and back but almost a little to long. The fit across the chest is to tight. the fit is almost perfect, almost.., with only a T shirt under but once you layer up with even a 200 weight fleece it becomes very constricted in the chest and under the arms area. I also tried this with a light puffy and it was even tighter.
Unfortunately I will be returning it and living with my 20 year old version.
Pros:
  • Light weight
Cons:
  • To tight
