Gypsy1967's Review of Marmot Chelsea Coat - Women's

I bought this coat specifically for a trip to Europe at Christmas. I was planning to 'test run' it during our Australian winter, but I doubt that will happen now. I expect to be house bound, as it will be Australia's peak period for battling the fight against COVID-19. Our Government has told us we need to batten down the hatches for at least 6 months, to help slow the spread. My heat breaks for the world, and the devastating effects this virus is having on so many innocent lives.
On a more positive note – the Marmot Chelsea coat. I love this coat! I was after something more stylish than a 'puffer style' jacket (so I could wear it both day and night – dress it down during the day, and team it with smarter shoes and accessories at night). This coat certainly delivers in that regard. Whilst I've not tested it out in the elements, it seems super toasty warm. I love how light weight it is – so you don't feel like the Michelin woman. I must say, when I unpacked the coat, I was so taken aback with how light it was that I weighed it to make sure it weighed as per the specifications on Marmot's website. It was smack on! I was momentarily worried I'd received a summer version (even though one doesn't exist). The benefits of toasty warm goose down – you get warmth without weight! I bought a size bigger, so that I can layer underneath, if necessary. I've tried it (indoors) and it works a treat (and I still don't feel like the Michelin woman!). I'm only 5' 1", so the coat comes virtually to my knees (which I love!). Teamed with some Sorel Joan of Arctic boots, there won't be much gap. I love that Marmot has upgraded the zipper to a 'double-end' zipper (not a feature on earlier models of this jacket). I've read reviews where people complain about the small hood. I've got very thick, long hair (not curly though), and this hood is massive. I could hold a party in the hood! I definitely wouldn't want it any bigger. The adjustable wrist cuffs are great – ideal for if wearing / not wearing gloves. I've read some reviews where people say the coat is noisy. I don't find it noisy at all.
Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. Thank you CampSaver – I bought the coat for an outstanding price (I'd been watching the prices for a while). Postage to Australia cost almost as much as the coat, but it was still a really good buy. Shipping took 20 days (as expected), and I received the coat in a big box (so the coat only had to be folded in half, and not scrunched up like it had just come out of the washing machine spin cycle – I appreciate your care with packaging, CampSaver), complete with shop tags, original Marmot coat hanger and protective plastic cover. Extraordinary service! I would definitely buy from CampSaver again.
Don't hesitate – if you're considering this coat, just buy it – you won't be disappointed.
Stay safe everyone, and I hope once we all cross the bridge to the other side, the World is a stronger and more united place.
Pros:
  • Stylish, light weight, perfect length and waterproof.
Cons:
  • Not really a 'Con' - I find the hood a very generous size.
Best Used for:
  • Very versatile - day wear (worn casually) or evening wear (teamed with smarter shoes and accessories).
