My first Marmot jacket. Most features are very nice. Lots of well placed pockets. Quite warm for component system. I expected the shell to be of a heavier denier fabric for the money. (Marmot does oz. per yard instead of denier.) We'll see how the cuffs wear over time. I also had initial fabric in the zipper problems until the packaging wrinkles hung out.

On cold days this has been a nice warm coat. The two layers work well to keep you toasty and warm however the claim (and Marmot is not the only manufacturer to make this claim) that the coat is waterproof and breathable is a lot of crap. If a coat is truly going to keep water out is also going to keep water in. Perhaps water vapor can escape but not fast enough that you will not become wet from the inside if you are working hard at whatever activity you are participating in. The ability to breath or regulate the warmth inside the coat would be greatly enhanced if the inner coat also had pit zip. This would have greatly enhanced my opinion of this coat. The other gripe I have is that one of the pocket zippers continually jams on the material inside the pocket. Extremely annoying for a coat that costs this much. I do like all the pockets that are available, the hood works well keeping snow and rain off your face, and the adjustable velcro cuffs on the sleeves work well. Not a bad coat but has some drawbacks for a coat costing this much.

The Gorge Component Jacket offers a great deal of functionality in single package. The jacket consists of an inner zip-in lofted insulating jacket, and a water-repellent hardshell. Both pieces work great individually, and I've mostly been using the inner jacket on its own.
The insulation layer is a medium loft and reasonably warm, but I wouldn't expect it to hold up under really severe conditions
