i discovered the Marmot isotherm half-zip while shopping to replace the function of the venerable fleece sweater in my layering system. Did some research on the Polartec Alpha insulation and decided it would be worth a gamble. My greatest concern initially was durability, so I promptly wore it sans shell on a half-dozen or so chimney climbing pitches. Nearly a month of this, and it still looks pristine. It's easily as warm as the fleece it replaces, and breathes like a racehorse, so it remains comfortable as temps rise...and its only a third the weight of the old fleece. The only difficulty this presents is wondering whether I should have bought a second to throw in the closet against the day this one eventually wears out...
