I have to admit that I'm surprised! This jacket does what it's advertised to do...at least for me. Let me describe myself: 64 year old male, 150 lbs. Pretty good shape: I walk 2.6 miles every day in my neighborhood in about 45 minutes, with a heart rate around 120 - 130. It's been cold where I live, below 0 one morning this week, and windy! Today we had a heat wave, up to 25 by the time I took off for my walk. I still have to put some miles into this product but so far this thing is the perfect jacket. Great for layering and the ideal jacket for cold spring/summer PNW mornings.

This from Polartec: Polartec ® Alpha ® was originally developed for the U.S. Special Forces when they required a more advanced insulating material in their combat uniforms. This fabric is a new technology with active insulation that regulates core body temperatures during both dynamic and static activities. This latest advancement in adaptable breathability helps eliminate the need of shedding or adding layers while on the move.
Sitting inside in a cold winter Chicago day, this hoody was not as warm as a light weight fleece. Might work well outside being more active, but Polartec says warm, either way.
