Daniel P.'s Review of Marmot Speed Light Jacket - Men's

I bought this jacket as a replacement for my 2007 Exum Jacket, since I will were this daily for bike commuting in Germany, were it rains often and is windy more often. I wanted Gore Tex Pro Shell for durability. Athletic fit is good, I am 6' and 225 lbs, an XL is perfect. New Pro Shell is crunchier than the old Pro Shell, but not unbearable. First thing I noticed is that there is no way to stow the hood. I would settle for a few extra grams to have a small velcro tab on the back of the hood to roll it up and fasten it to a loop inside the jacket so the hood isn't flapping around when I don't need it. Also missing is a few grams of soft material around the top of the zipper. A little patch of Driclime or something there to protect my lips would make me feel like this jacket was designed with the user in mind. Maybe it was designed that way, but it is not there, so I can't help but think some corporate bean-counter axed it to make a few more bucks. Pockets are ample, and no interior pocket is not a problem. Overall feels like a rugged jacket but not very imaginative. I would be very dissapointed if I paid full retail. It gets 3 stars for the MSRP, 4 stars if you pay clearance price. Doesn't get 5 stars until you add about 75 cents more material to it so the hood can be stowed and my lips can be comfie. I'm still waiting for Marmot to answer my email, the auto reply didn't answer my question, so they get 0 stars for customer service.
