zippers all work good. can even open and close the armpits with the jacket on. fits as expected 6'2" 180lbs and I can get a hoodie under it, size Large. Jacket is long but not to long. The formed hood keep rain out of your face. The only issue I have is the front pockets are strange. they are high up and sewn in. So you can rest your hands on the jacket. Also the pocket is bigger going backwards than forwards. This all said the pocket is big enough to hold my .45 handgun. it just point the wrong way. inside pockets as well, haven't used them yet. overall jacket kept me warm and very dry for ...

Marmot Spire Inspires

by Sloaf1, Verified Owner from ME, United States Written on December 14, 2020
This rugged shell is excellent for skiing. It is helmet compatible with a high neck profile to block snow from hitting your face. The sleeve has a small pocket ideal for a season's pass. There is a double zipper to loosen the shell while sitting. There is also a powder skirt which I may never use living in the east. The shell weight is heavy and resistant to tears. Consider buying a size larger if you intend to wear mid-layers. I have a 44" chest that measures 47" with my base and mid layers, and the extra large fits comfortably.
Pros:
  • Shell weight, hood, neck guard
Cons:
  • Hood is large if this will be an in-town shell
Best Used for:
  • Skiing, backpacking

Spire jacket

by Angel R., Written on March 6, 2017
I was looking for a waterproof/wind proof gortex shell. I already own a packable jacket but was looking for a jacket for colder days in upstate NY. The Spire was perfect it is roomy enough to wear over a light insulated jacket for those extra cold days. The construction is top notch. I put it to the test and went for a winter hike after a snowstorm and it provided warmth and it definitely was water/wind proof. I am extremely satisfied with the purchase.

Solid goretex shell

Very good 3-layer goretex shell for the price . It help up very well after 2 days of ski at Tahoe with constant snow and sleet falling. I am 5´10 and 190 lbs and got the L. There is plenty of room for layering on cold days.

Best Jacket for the Money

by robert m., Written on April 13, 2015
Although the jacket could have more pockets, it does offer bomb proof protection against the elements and versatility. It has all the features in a do all purpose winter shell, with a durable and breathable Gore Tex fabric shell. Adding a base and mid layer or two will keep you as warm as you need to be, in the coldest of climates, as tested recently when the temperature dropped into single digits. The hood is helmet compatible, and the snow skirt works as promised. I would have given this jacket 5 stars if it had a few more pockets, otherwise a great jacket for the money. Size medium fits me perfectly in a 5'9", 167 lbs frame, with enough room to add layers.
