Huge fill. Zipper took a little time to use, but once you understand how to use it, is very well designed. Use the snap at the bottom of the jacket to keep both sides of the jacket together. Best not to use the bottom part of zipper when trying to zip it up; it can be unstable. Use your right hand to insert the zipper into the slot while the left hand is holding on to the snap. Push the insert down into the zipper to line up everything. Then use the right hand to pull up the top part of zipper to finally zip up. To unzip: just the opposite. Better than a Mammut Eigerjoch Pro?

I bought a Eigerjoch Pro from Mammut wanting a supremely, over the top alpine jacket, even though living in Dallas, Texas there is probably no need for it. But loved the jacket. Then saw this Montane Deep Heat on sale on a website and thought I would give it a try. WOW! I couldn’t of been more happier of the decision I made. This jacket has the same Pertex Quantum Pro, Diamond Fuse technology, for a third of the price of the Mammut ($600). Not to mention the 800+ down fill, compared to the Eigerjoch 850. But the warmth was just the same. I think I am a sold customer for life on Montane products, and glad to have found them.

This is a great jacket which I highly recommend. It is warm, light, and comfortable. The length is just right.The semi-rigid hood is the best I've ever seen (it even has a brim!). The hood and collar cover almost the entire face, necessary in high wind conditions. The hand-warmer pockets are in a perfect location. Looking forward to putting this jacket through its paces.
Best Used for:
  • Very cold conditions, less than 10 derees F.
