Happy's Review of Montane Featherlite Down Jackets - Men's
I am an Illinois flatlander, ergo not an Alpine Climber. However, I am outside ALOT and I did TONS of research (and made more than one return) seeking a multi-season technical down for hiking, camping, going out/ casual wear, and pulling on for walking the dog or for multi-day bus and recess supervision duties at the school in which I work. The Montane Featherlight is exactly what I was looking for. Regulating, but can be very warm as a layer. In Chicago winters I can layer it over a form fitting cycling jacket or under a soft or hardshell. It is cozy comfortable and super light. The hood can fit a helmet but more importantly for me is warm, fits well, and looks good the 99.9% of the time I’m not wearing one, and it moves with your head. Packed with features and attention to detail. The Shadow color is awesome. Love the red zippers. I have a family to support so when I make purchases I try to buy fewer, nicer things that will last and that are stylish but not trendy. The Montane Featherweight is professional grade, but a better value and much more unique in the States than the typical brands. I purchased the Featherweight and the Montane Sabretooth softshell for what I would have dolled out for a comparable Arcteryx down OR softshell. I’m 5’9 and 155-165 (depending on the season, activity level, and IPA consumption). Medium fits perfect.
