Most Helpful Positive Review Ibex Pants
I've used these pants on a single overnight backpacking trip. These are my initial impressions. In general, I like these pants. The conditions in which I used them included temps between 30* and 50* F, hiking primarily in the snow. I wore them as the only layer on my lower half. The fabric was well suited to fend off light snow that fell at times. A key thing you should be aware of is the thigh pocket design: because the zippers are vertical, there is the potential for the loss of items if you are negligent closing the zipper properly or if the zipper drops as you're hiking. Unfortunately, I ...

Versatile All-Around Pants

by Phil, from CO, United States Written on November 13, 2023
There's an assortment of hiking pants in my closet, but one has become my consistent go-to pair. I bought my first pair of Ibex Mountain Pants several years ago and they still function great after hundreds of miles of hiking, snowshoeing, scrambling, bushwhacking, and backpacking in the Colorado Rockies and Moab red rock country. I've even worn them on tens of thousands of miles of air travel. Why do I love these pants? Good balance of durability and weight, zippered pockets to keep things secure, a low profile belt, and a comfortable athletic fit with enough stretch to promote mobility. They also provide a surprising balance of breathability in the summer (albeit mostly at high altitude) and softshell wind-resistance/warmth in the winter (I rarely use a base layer or shell with these pants during moderate-intense activities in the Rockies). The Ibex Mountain Pants perform so well for me that I bought a second pair then my wife bought me a couple more, because she said she likes they way they look on me. If you're looking for something versatile that performs between basic and extreme, the Ibex Mountain Pants are a good option to consider.
Pros:
  • Features
  • Durability and comfort
  • wind resistance
  • Strech
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Off-Route Trekking
  • Snow shoeing
  • scrambling
  • Hiking & Backpacking
  • travel and camping

Good quality and comfort.

by HC, from MD, United States Written on October 16, 2023
The pants are well made and stretchy. I am 5'11'' and 155 lb and order "M" size. They are true to size, not baggy or tight.

Ok... but the fit in knees...

by ps, Verified Owner from DE, United States Written on January 8, 2022
Material, breathability, water repellency, and workmanship are ok for these pants, but I'm not a fan of these narrowed "articulated", as they call them, knees. They touch inner upper part of knees, which I feel uncomfortable with. The ordinary no-frills straight leg would be better in my honest opinion.
Pros:
  • material
  • breathable
  • Stretchy
Cons:
  • Fit
Best Used for:
  • HIKING

Stop looking elsewhere!

by dhickey, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on December 21, 2019
For the money these are the best soft shell pant around. I'm 5'10" 170 lbs, regular 32 inseam and these in a 34 fit me perfectly. American Alpine Institute was the only other place I founds this pant (same price) but I had a coupon at Campsaver to use. If AAI gets behind a product its because they have personally used them. I've spoken to AAI about this company and they've been selling more and more of their stuff for 6 years. Mountain Equipment is a solid UK climbing apparel company slowly making it was into NA. I cant wait to buy more Mountain Equipment goods.
Pros:
  • Pockets
  • sizing
  • Zippers
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • HIKING
  • MOUNTAINEERING
  • Alpine

The Only Pants

by Darrell Statema, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on December 10, 2019
If you are looking for a versatile pant - these are it. Amazing fit. They are close fitting around the thigh area but the stretch is dialed in so perfectly that there is zero restriction of movement. I can also wear my favorite base layer tights under them and they work just right. The interior fabric is very nice against the skin. No annoying seems or rough abrasive feel.

Softshell Pants

by KJC1333, Verified Owner from GA, United States Written on January 28, 2019
Awesome set of Softshell Pants. Fits great since I am 5'6" tall with an inseam of 28". Purchased the short and they are a touch long but with boots they fit perfectly. I have worn them in 26 degree F with wind chills in the teens and have felt warm and provided great protection.

Perfect for winter day hikes!!!

by Keith, from MI, United States Written on December 31, 2018
These are very comfortable and easy to maneuver in. I like the zippered pockets. They are narrow at the ankle so they fit and look well. Seem very durable. The ability to put a drawcord in the ankle hem is wonderful to keep debris out of the boots. Perfect for 20 to 40 degree days for me as I don't get overly hot.
Pros:
  • Great Fit
  • Manuverability
  • Zipped pockets
  • Ability to add draw cord
Cons:
  • Inseam still long for me in short length
Best Used for:
  • day hikes
Would recommend: Yes

Best fitting pant!

by Lynn, from MT, United States Written on August 2, 2018
It's not always easy to find pants that fit well and come in short lengths! This is the best hiking pant I own. I'm constantly looking for reasons to wear them because they are so comfortable. They don't pick or pill and the stretch is amazing. They dry extremely quickly and seem to move moisture very quickly and efficiently. Plenty of pockets too!
Pros:
  • Durability!
Cons:
  • None
Would recommend: Yes

Do it all pant

by Ithaca, from NY, United States Written on June 1, 2018
This is a perfect transitional weather pant. Except for the middle of the summer, this is a great weight for climbing, hiking, xs skiing, etc.... I like that there is not too much fabric at the ankle so that crampons don't tear through your pants, and you have a clear view of where your boots are going for more technical applications. Super durable fabric. After multiple trips, they still look new.
Pros:
  • Great fit and durablity
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • hiking and backpacking
  • climbing and mountaineering
Would recommend: Yes
