I own the men's version of the Lightline Jacket and am very happy with it. Previously, Mountain Equipment's women's "version" was a long coat that came down to the news and would not be suitable for backpacking. When I checked recently, however, they had added a women's version comparable to the men's but tailored and sized to a woman's shape. I happily got the coat for my wife and adult daughters to share for shoulder-season backcountry travel. I was happy to find the sizes needed and the colors desired at a good price and in stock at Camp Saver. Like the men's version, the women's version is well made and has some updated features that I'd love to have on my own coat! Kudos to Mountain Equipment and Camp Saver.
Pros:
- Well made , durable, comfortable, attractive
Best Used for:
- Backpacking
- Around town
- backpacking - mild to cold weather

I live in Interior Alaska where the temperatures are COLD! Last January, daytime temperatures casually remained around -20F for the entire month. I needed a jacket that would be warm enough to get outside in (shoveling, using the outhouse, walks, hikes) but wasn't as big and bulky as those mushing parkas rated for -60F. This jacket is everything I had hoped for! I've now spent two frigid winters in it and am so happy with my choice.
Some temperature examples:
-I just came in from sitting in the outhouse. It's -9F right now. This jacket+base layer+sweater and I was warm and comfortable.
-Last winter, I would go on lunchtime walks at -20F. This jacket+base layer+sweater+down vest+ snow pants and I was comfortable for my 45 minute walk.
-Cross country skiing at -20F I would sweat in this jacket!
-I switch to another jacket when it gets above about 20F. It's so warm!
For size, I am 5' 8'' and 135 lbs. I wear a size 12/M and it's perfect to be able to add layers if I want.

I was so confused by all the new "puffy" jackets made of unobtanium which might or might not keep me warm depending on how many layers I have with me. I know what to expect from this. I'm 5'6" and 140 lbs, and the medium fits great. Just a little past my hips, and the sleeves are long enough.... I like it. I only give four stars because it takes a winter to test it.

I ended up returning this jacket, but only for one reason. The shoulders were very boxy and huge on me and I don't have small shoulders. I could've kept the jacket but the cut of the shoulders was so unflattering that I had to send it back. Other than the shoulders, this jacket seems super warm, soft, and everything you would want in the backcountry. I'm sad that it didn't work out.
Pros:
- Comfortable
- warm
- Two way zipper
Cons:
- Huge in the shoulders
- Boxy fit
