I bought the Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer Hooded Down Jacket for backpacking and haven't had a chance to use it for that purpose yet. It's very light (as advertised at 7.2 oz.) in my pack for day hikes and is warm enough for a few minutes of night star gazing. I am a bit concerned it might not be warm enough for backpack trips in the Sierra Nevada unless worn with the rain jacket I always bring with me. I had to return a Medium (my usual size) because it was snug under the arms and along my upper torso for ease of movement. The Large size is roomy and I am hoping the cinch at the bottom will keep air from coming in. The wrists don't close so I have the same concern there. It may be a redundancy to the Patagonia sweater (no hood, perfect fit, warm for not too cold temps.) that my husband gave to me a couple of years ago, but time will tell.
