Roger Richardson's Review of Mountain Hardwear Nitrous Down Insulated Jacket - Men's

Another great jacket by Mountain Hardwear! Details matter, and this is where Mountain Hardwear sets its self apart from most insulated jackets and parkas. The Nitrous jacket, while meant to be a light weight jacket, still incorporates a slightly longer tail, which actually makes this coat more wind resistant, warmer, and much more comfortable while driving in a vehicle or cycling. I'm 6'-00" and weigh 185, and large fits perfectly with nice long sleeves. The pockets are positioned perfectly, making one hand operation of the zippers a breeze. The upper chest pocket is very roomy and perfect for safe carry of a large smart phone. I've owned all the biggest named brands of light weight down jackets, and ounce for ounce the Nitrous Jacket is the warmest I've owned, and so light you barely know you have a jacket on. The Nitrous Jacket is listed as a Full size jacket. I've found this is really a slimmer fit, making it perfect for layering. I can easily wear this Jacket under my heavier jackets or parkas for the coldest of activities. The Nitrous jacket is the perfect Jacket for active outdoorsman down to around 32. I find it the perfect Everyday jacket for people who dislike wearing a coat while driving, because you won't know you have it on. Plus you can get out and shop indoors and not get hot. Just can't say enough good things about this Jacket. I must say that I searched all the sales to buy this Jacket, not only was CampSaver.com the cheapest, they were the only company that I could find a Large in! Typical of sales, all the companies have great prices if you can wear an Xsmall or xxxlarge, but a sale isn't a sale if they don't have your size and the color you want. CampSaver.com is a fast shipper and always delivers what they promise. Five star all the way!
Pros:
  • Light weight- Wind resistant- a bit longer tail and very well made
  • Light weight, wind resistant , a bit longer tail, warm and very well made
Cons:
  • Need to realize this is a slim fit jacket, yet very true to size
Best Used for:
  • Active wear, good down to 32-40 degrees. Great lightweight jacket for driving when you need to be in and out of the vehicle a lot.
