Most Helpful Positive Review Mountain Hardwear Stretch Down Jacket
The jacket is kind of bulky, but its extremely warm and looks great on me. Its atheletic cut, which is perfect for someone with wide shoulders n small waist. Resist water and wind very well. Awesome jacket!

Stretch down jacket

by Chris Hoovet, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on October 8, 2019
I love the strechness of this jacket. I also like the inner sleeve material which wicks nicely and doesn’t have that slippery/sticky feel while sweating. The jacket breaths well and the down does a good job of adjusting to temps going from inside to outside
Pros:
  • All the material used
Cons:
  • Its a little tight at the armpits but does stretch
Best Used for:
  • layering

Mt Hardwear Stretch Down Jacket

by Daniel, from NH, United States Written on November 14, 2017
True fit, nice style, lite but warm. I am using this jacket as a liner under my ski patrol vest. It is not bulky, yet there is enough room to layer. This jacket can be used for a number of activities. Highly recommended.
Pros:
  • Lite but warm
Cons:
  • NONE
Best Used for:
  • cold weather sports

Great Fit, Great Warmth

by Garth B., Written on January 18, 2017
I"m 6' 150lbs with slightly longer arms and the medium fits me perfectly in sleeve length and the chest. When using as a mid layer there's room for a base and one other tight layer like a micro fleece etc. This jacket is more substantial/bulky compared to other mid layers but it is stretchy which allows for movement. I have a medium North Face Thunder which is not as puffy/bulky, not quite as warm, has a little shorter sleeves, and does not have any stretch so can't layer as much underneath it. The two areas that the Thunder is nicer is for packing (the sealed chambers of the MH jacket make it slower to compress down) and fitting it under a tighter fitting shell. The jacket is not long and it has waist draw strings to seal it up. Lots of pockets for a mid layer. The 2 interior pockets are deep. I bought the red version which is more of a red/orange mix with. I intended to use this as a mid insulating layer but I also use it as a main coat.

Great jacket. Just came back from Whistler in single digit temps and stayed comfty-warm with this jacket. I like the fact this jacket has deep inside pockets on top of the outside pockets.

Simple but good

by Landon P., Written on December 22, 2016
Really good looking and performs well too, a nice balance between weight and warmth. I can wear it over a shirt and stay pretty warm in most winter weather, though I think it would layer well too. Really like the welded baffles instead of stitched seams, both for looks and feel. The material itself is perhaps my favorite part, looks good and is really comfortable. 4/5 because I wish the pockets were insulated. I would definitely buy this jacket again, though I would probably go with the hooded variation.

I love this jacket

by hubrix, Written on December 14, 2016
I have a lot of different jackets. For balance of weight to warmth this is a winner. I really wish I had the hooded one though because the hat I have is not warm as compared to this jacket. The inside large pockets are super useful. One thing to note is it's short so you need warm pants. It's very comfortable though and really light and mostly windproof.

Great Jacket - Very Warm, Especially for this Cold Weather in Chicago -5 Degrees So Far

by L. S., Written on December 14, 2016
I have been wearing my new Mountain Hardwear Jacket that I ordered for a well-deserved self Christmas present this year and I am very happy with the quality and warmth of this jacket. The pockets are so great, very deep, which is especially nice since I have a man-wallet, keys, phone, access card for work and gloves.. and all fits perfectly.

The fit is perfect, I ordered a XXL since I might wear a sweater underneath this jacket and it still has a that flat look, athletic look to it. Very happy with this purchase and it has been down to -5 degrees so far this winter even though it is super lightweight. I'll know better just how effective this jacket is this weekend when it gets to -20 degrees, but I have no expectations that it should be THAT warm. But so far this StretchDown Jacket has been above and beyond my expectations.

Very Impressed

by Matt S., from IL, United States Written on December 14, 2016
I got this jacket in the Cloudburst. The interior color is more of a copper/bronze than an orange which I was pleasantly surprised by. The exterior color was as expected.

Really comfortable jacket. Moves well with the body throughout almost all motions.

I went with the XL and the fit was near perfect, which is not common given that I am 6'3, broad shoulders, barrel chest, etc.

Definitely keeps you warm, I threw this jacket on over a lightweight long sleeve t-shirt and shoveled my driveway in the snow. Water beaded off the jacket and I was sweating by the end of the driveway.

Only reason I gave 4 stars is that I really wanted the Eggplant color but it wasn't available...is that fair? maybe not but that's life.

The external pockets are a nice size and aren't located too high. Interior pockets are perfect for storing gloves/hat/scarf.

Only wore this jacket 3 times so far and received direct compliments on it at least twice.

My First Down Jacket

by Jordan F., from UT, United States Written on December 14, 2016
I was skeptical about how warm a down jacket really was compared to wearing layers like I'm used to. I have been more than pleased with this jacket. It's warm and I don't feel restrained since it has stretch to it. I haven't had to wash it yet (I hear down jackets need special cleaning). I would recommend the jacket for sure. I wish I had bought the hooded version.
